Strengthening Executive Communication for a Senior HR Consultant

A Senior HR Consultant at a multinational organization was placed on a Performance Improvement Plan for challenges in effective communication, including difficulty reading group dynamics and a tendency to over-explain in meetings.

As a non-native English speaker with ADHD, these challenges stemmed from differences in real-time processing, interpreting social cues, and communication pacing, rather than capability or intent.

Coaching emphasized self-awareness, active listening, and structured meeting preparation. Facilitation strategies were introduced to enhance real-time engagement and communication clarity.

Outcome: He significantly improved his communication and met all PIP expectations.

A young professional at a consulting firm with a PhD and strong analytical capabilities was placed on a Performance Improvement Plan due to a lack of attention to detail, inconsistent engagement with assigned work, and a pattern of submitting deliverables late.

Despite clear intellectual strengths, she struggled to translate complex thinking into timely, polished outputs. The firm’s culture required independent contributors to manage their own projects without highly structured planning or communication systems—an environment that exacerbated her challenges.

Through an ADHD-informed coaching approach, we focused on reverse-engineering deliverables to ensure completion, establishing consistent communication with her manager, and building confidence to participate more actively in team meetings. A key component of the work involved helping her identify what she needed to be effective in this environment—specifically, more structured processes—and supporting her in becoming more assertive in communicating those needs.

We introduced practical workflows to break down work into manageable steps, along with simple communication rhythms to increase visibility and alignment.
